Tommy Fleetwood, the Southport-born golfer, is aiming for his first PGA Tour win at the Tour Championship in Atlanta. The 34-year-old posted a three-under-par third round, entering the final 18 holes in a close battle with American Patrick Cantlay. Despite multiple runner-up finishes in majors and Ryder Cup successes, Fleetwood has yet to secure a PGA Tour victory, holding the unusual distinction of earning the most prize money on tour without a win.
Fleetwood’s career, however, has been financially rewarding. He has amassed £24 million ($32.5 million) in prize money, including £4.7 million ($6.4 million) in 2024 alone, with a tied-third finish at the St Jude Championship bringing in £860,000 over the weekend. Off the course, he is backed by major sponsors such as Nike, TaylorMade, and Tag Heuer, though he and his wife and agent, Clare, often decline lucrative offers.
Fleetwood met Clare through his brother in 2015, initially forging a professional partnership before their romance blossomed. They married in 2017 and are now parents to son Frankie, with Clare bringing two older children from a previous relationship into their blended family. Clare, who still manages Fleetwood’s career, noted their 23-year age gap and the unique balance of working and personal life. “I know everything on every side – sponsorship, logistics, PR, accounts – maybe sometimes too much,” she said.
Fleetwood credited their shared upbringing for their connection. “We share a very northern sense of humour. We’re both from working-class backgrounds…whether it be in terms of kindness or toughness or wanting to be the best you can be,” he told The Times.
The couple, who moved to Dubai in 2022, continue to navigate the demands of elite sport while keeping their family and partnership at the forefront.
