Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh refused to comment Saturday on the NCAA’s sanctions against his former program, Michigan.

Like I told you last year, I’m not engaging,” Harbaugh said after the Chargers’ preseason loss to the Rams in Inglewood. “I’m done engaging.”

Harbaugh, 61, guided the Wolverines to an undefeated season and a national championship in 2023 but the program was later cited for multiple violations tied to a sign-stealing scheme led by recruiting analyst Connor Stalions.

On Friday, the NCAA said Michigan committed violations over three seasons involving in-person scouting, impermissible recruiting inducements, improper communications, head coach responsibility rules, failures to cooperate, and a failure to monitor.

Sanctions include a fine based on Big Ten revenues, which could reach $20 million to $30 million, as well as other penalties Harbaugh also received a 10-year show cause order, making a return to college coaching unlikely.

The Chargers hired Harbaugh after Michigan’s 2023 championship season. The school said it will appeal the NCAA’s ruling.
