'Tron: Ares' Star's 15% Rotten Tomatoes Superhero Movie Finds New Streaming Home

The superhero genre has stumbled in recent years, with a few films rescued by streaming buzz while others collapsed despite major backing. One such flop was Morbius, Sony’s Spider-Man spinoff starring Jared Leto, which failed to win over critics or audiences. Directed by Daniel Espinosa, the film follows Dr. Michael Morbius, a scientist with a rare blood disorder who unleashes a dark alter ego after a risky cure.

Though Morbius drew heavy online trolling, earned just 15% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, and took in only $167.5 million worldwide, its audience score stands at 71%, reflecting a more divided reception. Now, the film is headed to Prime Video this September, potentially finding a second life as a campy cult watch.

Meanwhile, Leto is turning to Tron: Ares, a sci-fi sequel that follows humanity’s first encounter with sentient A.I. Directed by Joachim Rønning, the film will lean heavily on emotional storytelling, something Rønning says past Tron installments lacked. The director described his vision as an “emotional experience,” aiming to blend spectacle with deeper resonance.

With Morbius set for streaming rediscovery and Tron: Ares promising a bold new direction, Leto remains at the center of two very different cinematic conversations.
