Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts will make its Disney+ debut on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, about three months after its theatrical release on May 2. The streaming release follows the studio’s usual window for MCU films transitioning from theaters to digital platforms.
While Thunderbolts underperformed at the box office, critics have praised its bold approach to the superhero genre. The film holds an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.2/10 score on IMDb. The Daily Record commended the ensemble as a “terrific, turbulent team,” highlighting the emotional and psychological layers behind the action. The Los Angeles Times called it “of undeniable merit,” positioning it as one of Marvel’s stronger recent offerings. Some reviewers, however, noted uneven pacing and execution in certain scenes.
Disney+ subscribers will have exclusive access to the film, with plans starting at $9.99 per month. Higher-tier subscriptions include perks such as 4K UHD and simultaneous multi-device streaming. The platform also offers bundles with Hulu and ESPN+.
Thunderbolts is part of Marvel’s Phase Five slate, which continues to expand on both streaming and theatrical fronts. Upcoming projects include the Ironheart series on Disney+ and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, hitting theaters in late July. Looking further ahead, Marvel is preparing for Avengers: Doomsday and Spider-Man: Brand New Day in 2026.
With its Disney+ premiere, Thunderbolts gives fans another chance to catch up on a pivotal chapter in the evolving Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline.
