Ethel Kennedy, the 96-year-old widow of Robert F. Kennedy and the oldest living member of the Kennedy family, has been hospitalized after suffering a stroke in her sleep last Thursday, her daughter Kerry Kennedy announced on Tuesday. Kerry shared that her mother had enjoyed a vibrant summer surrounded by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, but is now receiving treatment at an area hospital, where she remains comfortable and in the care of family. A lifelong advocate for human rights, Ethel founded the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights in 1968 following her husband’s assassination, and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama in 2014. She is also the mother of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who recently ended his presidential campaign and endorsed Donald Trump.
