Punisher and Hulk Officially Join ‘Spider-Man

On August 1, 2025, Marvel officially confirmed that Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk will appear alongside Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher in the upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day, ending months of fan speculation. The reveal, reported by Production Listings, follows weeks of speculation—especially after concept art leaked online showing Hulk and Spider-Man in dynamic action poses.

While plot specifics are still under wraps, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige offered key insights during a recent interview. According to Feige, Brand New Day will focus on a grounded, street-level narrative—moving away from the multiversal chaos of past Spider-Man films.

Reflecting on the events of No Way Home, Marvel President Kevin Feige shared, “For the first time, Peter Parker is truly on his own—completely erased from the lives of those he cared about. That sets the stage for a deeper, more grounded story. Now, he’s fully becoming the Spider-Man we’ve all read in the comics—fighting for the city, dealing with street-level threats instead of cosmic catastrophes.”

Feige also hinted that this new direction opens the door for fresh character pairings. “We’ve never seen Spider-Man interact with someone like the Punisher in the MCU, even though that’s where Punisher first debuted—on a Spider-Man cover. It’s a cool full-circle moment.”

Director Destin Daniel Cretton is already deep into pre-production, reportedly drawing inspiration from iconic comic covers—eight or nine of which are being recreated for the film. Filming officially began August 1 in Glasgow, Scotland.

But how exactly do Hulk and Punisher tie into a gritty Spider-Man tale?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, fans can expect some early tension: “It’s the Marvel formula. Expect Spider-Man, Hulk, and Punisher to clash first—then team up against a bigger threat.” That threat might be Scorpion, confirmed to return with actor Michael Mando reprising his Spider-Man: Homecoming role.

Another possible villain? Mister Negative. Recent set photos from Glasgow show armored trucks stamped with a red demon logo—closely tied to the Inner Demons gang he leads in the comics. While Marvel hasn’t confirmed his involvement, the clues are stacking up.

With a street-level tone, gritty allies, and returning foes, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is shaping up to be a fresh chapter in Peter Parker’s journey—and it swings into theaters on July 31, 2026.
