Just a week after pop star Katy Perry was spotted spending time with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, sources close to the two confirm that the outing was indeed a casual date—and that they’ve been in contact for weeks leading up to it.
According to an insider speaking to Us Weekly, Perry and Trudeau met through shared connections in the music industry, with Trudeau’s son, Xavier, being a rapper. The meeting included a walk in the park, dinner, and drinks in Montreal, sparking widespread buzz.
Though the romance is fresh, Perry, who recently ended her years-long relationship with Orlando Bloom, is embracing the chance to date again. “She’s stepping into unfamiliar territory,” the source said. “It’s been years since she dated, so this is exciting for her—but she’s not rushing into anything serious.”
Perry is currently on her Lifetimes Tour, which leaves little room for personal time, but she still made space in her schedule to reconnect with Trudeau during her Canadian break. Another insider told People that while there is clear chemistry, both have busy lives and responsibilities as parents, which could slow the relationship’s progress.
“There’s mutual attraction and common values,” the source noted. “They’re both idealistic and still believe in making a difference. Music is something they both deeply connect over.”
Even so, challenges remain. Long-distance logistics and co-parenting commitments are real concerns. “They both have children and ex-partners, so balancing everything won’t be simple,” the source added. “But with mutual understanding, it’s possible.”
Another Canadian source emphasized Trudeau’s cautious approach: “He’s keeping things under the radar. The timing seems right, but this is still a very early stage.”
