Geoff Fox, the beloved longtime Connecticut TV weather reporter who spent nearly three decades at WTNH News8, has shared that he is entering hospice care at age 75 as part of his ongoing battle with cancer. In a heartfelt Facebook post on Saturday, Fox revealed that doctors recently discovered cancerous growths on his liver, lungs, and pancreas. He explained that he is now too weak to undergo further chemotherapy after already enduring multiple rounds of treatment, including surgery, chemo, and radiation, following his initial pancreatic cancer diagnosis in 2016.
Fox said that while he currently has no symptoms and is not experiencing pain, he chose hospice care to ensure comfort in his final chapter. “With hospice I can stay just drugged enough to avoid the worst.” And a guarantee I can die at home,” he wrote. “So, I’ve chosen how to die — out of pain. At the moment nothing is necessary. I feel fine.”
His update reflects the difficult reality of cancer recurrence, which happens when cancer returns after a period of remission. Despite earlier treatments that put him in remission and even a recent surgery to remove a cancerous mass from his clavicle, Fox explained that his body can no longer handle aggressive treatment. By entering hospice, he said, he has accepted peace and dignity in his final stage.
Fans and colleagues who have followed Fox’s career and admired his warmth on screen for decades have expressed an outpouring of love and support following his announcement.
