Rudy Giuliani fractures vertebrae after car accident, security head says

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was hospitalized with multiple injuries after being involved in a car accident Saturday evening, according to a statement from his security chief, Michael Ragusa.

Giuliani’s car was rear-ended at high speed while on the highway. Emergency responders transported the 80-year-old to a nearby trauma center, where doctors diagnosed him with a fractured thoracic vertebrae, numerous lacerations, contusions, and injuries to both his left arm and lower leg.

Despite serious injuries, Giuliani remains stable, in great spirits, fully alert and conscious, Ragusa confirmed. Doctors treating the former mayor are reportedly “pleased with his progress” as he begins recovery.

Ragusa emphasized that the crash “was not a targeted attack,” dismissing speculation of foul play. He did not provide further details on whether another driver involved in the incident had been identified or taken into custody.

Giuliani’s social media accounts reposted Ragusa’s statement, assuring supporters of his improving condition. However, no additional information was immediately available from Giuliani’s representatives. Ted Goodman, who has often acted as Giuliani’s spokesperson, did not respond to NBC News’ request for comment.

Giuliani, who served as mayor of New York City from 1994 to 2001 and later became a prominent ally of former President Donald Trump, has faced mounting legal and financial challenges in recent years. His hospitalization following the accident marks the latest chapter in a turbulent period for the once-celebrated figure, who was known as “America’s Mayor” for his leadership in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks.

As of Sunday evening, Giuliani remained under observation at the trauma center, with doctors monitoring his recovery closely.
