Abbe Lowell, a high-profile Washington attorney who launched his own firm this year to defend officials targeted by former President Donald Trump, is quickly attracting major clients. Among them are Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, the first Black woman on the Fed’s board, and U.S. CDC Director Susan Monarez.
Lowell filed a lawsuit Thursday on Cook’s behalf, arguing Trump’s attempt to fire her over disputed mortgage documents is “unprecedented and illegal.” Monarez, meanwhile, has retained Lowell and fellow lawyer Susan Monarez, the CDC director, turned to Abbe Lowell and attorney Mark Zaid after the White House announced her dismissal, which they allege came in retaliation for resisting “unscientific directives” promoted by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Lowell, who previously represented Hunter Biden, Ivanka Trump, and Jared Kushner, has built his new firm around defending officials facing politically charged attacks. His growing caseload reflects mounting legal battles between Trump’s administration and career government officials.
